Blessed are Those who Give

A friend emailed this to me and I thought I would like to share this with you. The Chinese New Year is around the corner. Although this year promises to be a more subdued celebration due to a slimmer wallet, and general price increase in all traditional New Year goods, we are still blessed with good fortune unlike millions in the world who are still struggling to keep alive. Be grateful for what you have, eat in moderation, avoid waste and spare a thought for those less fortunate. Although a dollar may not seem a lot to us, it means the difference between life and death to many. Donate to a worthwhile charity to support the hungry in the world.

This was taken in 1994 during the Sudan famine. A famine stricken child crawling towards a UN food camp, a kilometer away. A vulture, keeping a watchful eye on him, waits patiently for the child to die. No one knows what happened to the child, including Carter, who left the scene soon after he took the photo.

Three months later Carter killed himself.
