Dian Sam House

I took Nancy and Sarah for breakfast at Dian Sam House at Taman Bukit Pasir. Although there are a number of dim sum restaurants in Batu Pahat, the newest being Ming Castle at Jalan Abu Bakar, this establishment is reputed to serve better dim sum. We went at about 8.30 am, which is a good time to go as it has limited tables.

The owner seems to have a passion for collecting curios and knick-knacks which he proudly displays on one wall.

The name of the restaurant

Inside the restaurant

Curios displayed neatly on shelves

The payment counter concealed behind a wood screen

The main area, and the tea making counter in the background

Nancy and Sarah waiting to be served

The cook making dim sum

Fried har gao or prawn dumplings with mayonnaise, a popular dish

'Chee cheong fun' with shrimp filling

Steamed har gao

Steamed buns with barbecued pork filling

The staple, 'siu mai'

Fried carrot cake, another favourite

Spring rolls with vegetable and shrimp fillings, and steamed dumplings with the same fillings

Fried prawn balls. I don't know what the coatings are made of

The menu

It is definitely more comfortable eating there than in the more traditional 'Fu Kui Siang' restaurant at Jalan Mohd Akil.
