Let There Be Light!

When is it going to end? Malaysians have been perturbed by a series of events that point to a worrying trend in religious intolerance. One cannot help but feel that there is a covert but concerted attempt to whittle away the religious freedom of non-Muslims in the country. First, a number of court decisions that upheld the supremacy of shariah courts to the detriment of non-Muslims, the demolition of Hindu temples, the stop work order to the construction of the Goddess of the Sea statue in Sabah, prohibiting the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims, the call by some politicians for the removal of Christian symbols and statues from missionary schools, and now new laws that will limit the allocation of visas to non-Muslim priests working here.
